Sometimes an area which suits a specific look may become - to some - old or out-dated. The owner of this house was instructed by their realtor to change the look of this wall and thus, dramatically change the look of this room by hiding this surface and applying a more neutral toned covering.
Because this type of surface doesn't take well to standard latex coverings there was need to prep the wall area with the proper priming material first.
After there was ample priming done to the area to hide the existing varnished surface and allow the paint to cover properly, there was extensive caulking and sanding to marry the new surface to the other walls in the room more effectively.
The results speak for themselves. If you are a fan of painted surfaces over varnished ones, then this is a nice selling point and a great alternative to stripping down the area and rebuilding.
Nice clean, neat lines look all the better with a little contrast in color to the freshly painted white ceiling and trim areas - this blue covering really plays nicely with the crisp whites of the rest of the room.
Again, with a good light source you don't have to worry as much about a room appearing to feel "closed in" on account of using medium and darker colors.
It's virtually always worth going to the extra effort of applying a fresh coat on your trim when you intend to change wall colors.
Nice sharp cut lines off your newly painted ceilings and casings make for a very satisfying look...
And cleaning up those baseboards with a fresh coat of paint really brings the room all that much more together when the job is complete!
It's not uncommon to have prospective clients ask for quotes omitting the ceiling in a room being painted - it's rare that it doesn't pay to go the extra mile to redo the entire room...ceiling included.
Trim done properly the 1st time - especially in a new home makes all the difference in a job that looks really complete.
As important as care being taken on standard walls and ceilings where patients pays off, it's doubly so on high cathedral ceiling areas - whether you're doing the wall for the 1st time or in this case blending repair work with the existing surface.
Accent pieces such as mantles like this one require a little extra attention and patients, but the results are well worth the extra care...
Windows like these are a fairly demanding job requiring expertise as well as patience.
An impressive semi-gloss finish provided by the varnish gives these windows the much needed protection and aesthetic feel we were looking for with this project.
The client decided against the traditionally painted wainscot look favoring instead a more organic feel - This will all be prepped and varnished as can be seen in the next pic...
...and this look gives very appealing results and a tough finish that should weather quite well!
This job required some new elements matching to existing ones - a great marriage!
